PH-AUS partnership talked about during MBC meeting with AUS Ambassador, Increased bilateral trade and investment opportunities
24 October 2023 – Australian Ambassador, H.E HK Yu PSM talked about increased trade and investment opportunities between Australia and the Philippines during MBC’s ‘PH and AUS: Strategic Partners for Growth and Security’.
“We are seeing more and more Australian businesses paying serious attention to the Philippines and realizing that the business environment is very, very good now,” said Ambassador Yu. She identified agriculture and mining–sectors where Australia has a competitive advantage–as priority areas where both countries can work together.
The ambassador also shared that the Australian Government will facilitate bilateral trade by forming an investment deal team in Manila, increasing business missions, and launching exchange programs for young professionals.
“Our government made it clear from day one that Australia’s future, whether its security or prosperity, depends on the security and prosperity of Southeast Asia. They really stepped up their engagement with Southeast Asia and in particular, the Philippines” said Ambassador Yu.
On September 8, 2023, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made the first official visit of an Australian PM in 20 years and signed an agreement with President Marcos to elevate the PH-AUS bilateral relationship into a strategic partnership.
MBC Trustee Ambassador Jose L. Cuisia Jr. supported the increased cooperation between Australia and the Philippines in his remarks: “All of this is aligned with MBC’s own mission of promoting an environment for business to create more jobs and better lives for our countrymen.”
Over 80 high-level representatives from business, diplomatic corps, and media attended the event. Notable attendees include MBC Board Members Edgar O. Chua, Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Rizalina Mantaring, Cosette Canilao, Amb. Jose L. Cuisia, Peter Maquera, Ramon del Rosario, Dr. Aris Alip, and the Ambassador of New Zealand.
