The Makati Business Club is a private non-profit business association in the Philippines founded in 1981 to promote the role of the business sector in national development efforts and as a forum for constructive ideas and action.
For more than four decades, MBC continues to serve as a forum where top business leaders can discuss and take action on two fronts: global competitiveness and responsible business. MBC is focused on advocacies and projects that push for a competitive, job-creating economy and democratic society. Some of MBC’s initiatives include economic briefings, digital democracy partnerships with LGUs, Philippine Business Councils, the APEC Business Advisory Council (Philippines), and sustainability & circular economy for businesses.
Rafael “Apa” Ongpin is the executive director of the Makati Business Club since January 1, 2025. Apa worked in the media industry, then in corporate for the Transnational Diversified Group, ABS-CBN, PhilWeb Corporation, and Alphaland Corporation. Ongpin succeeded Roberto “Bobby” Batungbacal (former Dow Chemicals Philippines Inc. country manager).
