MBC launches the Digital Democracy Awards: Calling all city LGUs to apply!
01 August 2024 – The Makati Business Club (MBC), in partnership with USAID Philippines, is thrilled to announce its first Digital Democracy Awards.
This will recognize local government units’ (LGUs) outstanding practices in strengthening citizen participation in government decision-making through the use of online technology.
The Awards aim to recognize LGUs for their outstanding efforts in fostering high-quality citizen participation through digital tools, effectively translating community feedback into actual policies, and demonstrating strong leadership in digital democracy initiatives. Moreover, they will also acknowledge the LGUs with quality public communication initiatives, rigorous data stewardship practices, and innovative solutions towards digital inclusion.
About #MBCDigitalDemocracy
With the rapid digitalization spurred by technological advancements and the pandemic, LGUs have increasingly relied on online tools to deliver services to their citizens. Since 2020, MBC’s Digital Democracy project has been assisting cities throughout the country in consulting their citizens using online tools. Cities such as Pasig, Iligan, Intramuros, Legazpi, Victorias, and Himamaylan have engaged their constituents on various topics including mobility, transportation, small businesses, mental health, and youth-led projects. This year, MBC trained nine more cities on implementing their own digital democracy projects.
