Economic & Energy Policy Officer

Makati Business Club is looking for an Economic & Energy Policy Officer who will be leading MBC’s initiatives in economic monitoring, energy, and other related initiatives. The role requires strong analytical, research and communication skills to develop policy recommendations, manage partnerships, and support MBC’s legislative and economic advocacy initiatives. This is a regular position, and the Officer will be working with a young, fun, and dynamic staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
Policy and Advocacy Leadership
- Lead and manage MBC’s policy initiatives on economy and energy.
- Develop actionable policy recommendations and initiatives, engaging with key stakeholders in government and the private sector.
- Conduct legislative monitoring and provide policy analysis to support MBC’s advocacy in the energy sector and other related economic policy initiatives.
- Assist in legislative advocacy efforts, including developing position papers and engaging with policymakers.
Research and Analysis
- Produce clear, concise, and accurate briefers, reports, research papers, and policy positions on energy as well as other economic policy initiatives as needed.
- Monitor industry trends, policy changes, and economic developments affecting MBC’s priority sectors, particularly energy and infrastructure.
- Co-lead quarterly GDP reports, lead inflation and labor monthly updates.
- Lead updating of MBC’s economic dashboard.
- Assist in updating Congress Watch tracker.
Engagement and Partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, private sector partners, industry groups, and funding organizations.
- Assist MBC leadership and partners to secure funding or support for projects in the abovementioned sectors.
- Co-design roundtable discussions, stakeholder meetings, and policy dialogues.
Strategic and Project Support
- Assist the Policy Manager and Executive Director in strategizing, conceptualizing, and executing projects in energy and other economic policy initiatives.
- Provide recommendations on emerging issues and opportunities in energy and other economic policy initiatives.
- Support other economic and advocacy initiatives as assigned.
Other Duties
- Performs other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Science, Political Economy, or related social sciences fields.
- 3-5 years of experience in policy advocacy, government relations, research, or program management in the energy sector and other economic policy initiatives.
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to synthesize complex policy and economic issues into actionable recommendations.
- Experience in legislative monitoring and advocacy is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and in teams, with high initiative and multitasking abilities.
- Experience in conducting and designing policy discussions, roundtable meetings, and stakeholder engagements.
- Interest and familiarity with the energy sector and other economic policy initiatives is preferred.
