Grant Writer
Makati Business Club is looking for a Grant Writer who will support MBC in securing funding for its programs across the organization’s seven advocacies: Agriculture, Climate & Sustainability, Transparency & Accountability, Economy, Digital, Infrastructure, and Energy. The role involves developing high-quality grant proposals, crafting compelling narratives, preparing application documents, coordinating requirements with internal teams, and managing submissions to local and international donors.
The Grant Writer will work closely with the Projects & Grants Manager, Executive Director, and program teams to ensure that proposals clearly and accurately reflect MBC’s priorities, evidence-based approach, and multi-stakeholder engagement model.
Duties and Responsibilities
Grant Writing & Proposal Development

- Translate program ideas and technical content from program officers and management into clear, persuasive, and well-structured proposals.
- Develop proposal narratives (background, rationale, objectives, methodology, workplans, expected outcomes, sustainability, and monitoring frameworks).
- Ensure proposals align with donor priorities and compliance requirements.
- Adapt writing style based on funder expectations and application formats.
Donor Coordination & Application Management
- Manage the end-to-end application process, including gathering documents, completing forms, preparing budgets with the Finance Team, and ensuring timely submission.
- Coordinate with program staff to collect technical information, data, activity descriptions, and indicators needed for proposals.
- Track deadlines, submission requirements, and donor communications.
- Maintain a repository of standard organizational information, updated project summaries, CVs, and required attachments.
Research & Funding Landscape Monitoring
- Respond to funding opportunities aligned with MBC’s work – including embassies, development agencies, foundations, regional initiatives, and thematic calls.
- Conduct research on donor priorities, funding strategies, eligibility criteria, and successful proposal trends.
- Prepare short briefs summarizing potential opportunities for management review.
Internal Collaboration & Program Support
- Work with program officers (Agriculture, Sustainability, FOI/Transparency, Government Dialogues, etc.) to develop project concepts and logical frameworks.
- Ensure proposals accurately reflect ongoing MBC work, internal capabilities, and achievable outcomes.
- Provide writing support for project concept notes, partnership proposals, and high-level requests for support.
Reporting & Documentation
- Provide comments to donor reports when narrative refinement or writing support is needed.
- Ensure proper documentation of submitted proposals, approvals, and correspondence.
- Maintain a grant pipeline tracker, including status, deadlines, and results.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in development studies, public policy, economics, communications, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in grant writing, proposal development, or fundraising in NGOs, think tanks, development organizations, or similar institutions.
- Strong understanding of development-sector donors (embassies, foundations, multilaterals) and funding requirements.
- Excellent writing and editing skills — able to produce persuasive, evidence-based, structured proposals.
- Experience preparing logical frameworks, theories of change, workplans, and MEL indicators is an advantage.
- Highly organized; able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong coordination and stakeholder management skills.
- Familiarity with MBC’s thematic areas (governance, transparency, economic reforms, agriculture, climate and sustainability) is an advantage but not required.
