MBC meets Sen. Win Gatchalian & Department of Finance


MBC continued to pursue its digital economy initiatives in February by meeting with Senate Ways & Means Chairman Sherwin Gatchalian and DOF Undersecretary Alu Dorotan-Tiuseco.
On Feb 9, MBC and ATIN (the Alliance of Tech Innovators for the Nation) met with Sen. Gatchalian to discuss certain provisions of SB 2528, his proposed bill on VAT for digital transactions. Sen. Gatchalian said local, “resident” platforms are exempt and said this would be clarified.
On Feb. 14, members of the same group met with DOF Usec. Tiuseco to discuss related issues.
Makati Business Club is the secretariat of ATIN, a group currently composed of Grab, Lalamove, Lazada, and Shopee which aims to engage with policymakers and industry leaders to promote the digital economy.
