Inside the Digital Backbone: MBC visits STT GDC (Philippines) Makati Data Center
21 May 2026 — The Makati Business Club (MBC) and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres Philippines (STT GDC (Philippines)provided MBC members with an exclusive look at the facilities of the STT Data Center in Makati City. The event brought together business and industry leaders from a wide range of sectors—including real estate, energy, financial services, technology, and outsourcing.
“Some people are saying that AI is the new utility. You can’t live without AI like you can’t live without electricity, and if that’s true, then data centers are the new power grid. And so what STT is building today will determine how businesses, industries, and even countries get to participate in this new economy of the future,” emphasized Andrea Sy, a member of MBC’s Global Ideas Committee and COO of Focus Global, a lifestyle retail company.
During the gathering, STT GDC Philippines President and CEO Carlo Malana shared an overview of the local digital landscape. Malana underscored how the nation’s increasing technological demand requires the development of robust, resilient digital infrastructure to support future growth.
The visit comprised two parts: a discussion led by members of the STT team and a glimpse of the data hall and AI Innovation Centre. Immersive site visits like this are central to MBC’s mission to provide business leaders with a firsthand look and a better understanding of the technology and infrastructure behind corporate digital transformation. Seeing how the facility runs, including its reliability measures, capacity, and cooling system, makes it easier for business leaders to bridge technical operations and strategic outcomes and turn abstract technology investments into tangible assets they can evaluate.
This initiative is supported by MBC’s Global Ideas Committee, which champions global competitiveness. The committee continuously leads initiatives that expose Philippine business leaders to fresh perspectives and emerging trends in various fields, including business and technology.
